| Star/Ship Atlantic |
Star/Ship Atlantic is one of the most popular ships for families seeking a moderately-priced 3-, 4- or 7-day cruise which can be combined with visits to Orlando's theme parks.
This is an active ship and events are planned onboard and ashore to ensure the whole family has fun.
Expect to find Looney Tunes characters aboard all sailings, enabling your kids to mix with Daffy Duck, Sylvester and Porky Pig, among others. Or, have the kids tucked in by Bugs Bunny, play baseball with ex-big league players at "Fantasy Camp," while the teenagers go wild in their own disco and youngsters tour the bridge and meet the Captain.
While not as spiffy as the recently renovated Star/Ship Oceanic, this ship fits the bill for nearly everyone traveling with kids.
Premier has also added Country & Western Theme Cruises and adult games such as a midnight "Carlos n Charlie" party and late-night piano bar.
There is 24-hour baby-sitting available, so parents can stay out all night.
Club Universe features floor shows each evening and equally popular is Junkanoo Bar and Club, a late-night disco.
Additional public rooms include the Mercury Theater, where the educational "Voyages of Discovery" is shown, Blue Riband Pub with a nautical motif, duty free shops and photo gallery.
Children's facilities include "Pluto's Playhouse," a large recreational center with year-round supervised activities for children ages 2 and over; "Space Station Teen Center," with dance floor and jukebox; a video game room and children's supervised pool.
Don't expect haute cuisine when dining aboard Star/Ship Atlantic, but average cruise ship fare.
The Galaxy Dining Room has two seating and casual luncheon or breakfast buffet is found in the Satellite Cafe.
Children's menus are extensive and found in all areas.
There is an ice cream parlor, pizzeria and 24-hour room service available.
Decorated in warm colors, Atlantic's cabins all have color TV and three-channel radio.
A number of staterooms hold three, four and five passengers with queen beds and pull down berths.
The Seasport Fitness & Health Center has a gym with exercise equipment and weight training machinery.
There are two pools, one outdoor and one enclosed in a magrodome, plus several whirlpools.
Entertainment includes an evening floor show, disco, piano bar and casino.
During holiday and vacation periods, Star/Ship Atlantic primarily carries families with children.
While children frequently cruise during non-vacation periods, the age range is a bit older.
A jacket and tie is recommended for the Captain's cocktail party, otherwise attire is casual.
Premier's recommended tipping amounts are $9 per person, per day (divided between room steward, waiter and bus boy).
Premier offers air/sea packages beginning at $549 for a 3-night cruise and $649 for a 4-night cruise. Rates are per person, double occupancy.
When staying in a cabin with two guests, the third, fourth and fifth passenger pays $449 for a 3-night cruise and $489 for a 4-night cruise.
Star/Ship Atlantic is based year-round in Port Canaveral.
Three-night cruises depart every Thursday and visit Nassau and Port Lucaya (a private Bahamian island).
Four-night cruises depart every Sunday visiting Nassau and Port Lucaya with one day at sea.
